Gizmo's Legacy
Dignity for Every Cat
The Birth of Gizmo’s Legacy
Today, Gizmo’s Legacy is supported by over 1,000 trained volunteers across the UK. When a deceased cat is reported, a volunteer will:
-
Collect the cat with care and respect
-
Scan for a microchip to identify them
-
Contact the owner wherever possible
-
Take them to a local vet so they can be picked up and brought home
This work has reunited countless families with their pets, brought closure in difficult times, and raised national awareness of the need for change.

Fighting for Gizmo’s Law
Heléna’s campaigning has already influenced public opinion, secured support from animal welfare organisations, and pushed for changes in policy. But the ultimate goal remains clear — to make it a legal requirement for all councils to scan deceased cats and contact their owners.
Gizmo’s Legacy is a testament to love, resilience, and the belief that every cat matters.
Gizmo’s Story — The Heart Behind Gizmo’s Legacy
In July 2016, Heléna’s beloved cat Gizmo was tragically lost. What made that loss even harder was discovering that, despite being microchipped and loved, Gizmo’s identity was never checked and her family was never contacted.
Helena was devastated - but she turned her grief into action. She knew no other cat owner should have to face the heartbreak of not knowing what happened to their pet, or being denied the chance to say goodbye.
